Daily Express 4.10.13. Health Secretary Andy Burnham of the previous government, tried to cover up a hospital hygiene scandal before the last General Election. There were shocking care standards at Basildon & Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in November 2009. Andy Burnham’s officials ordered the Care Quality Commission (CQC) watchdog to suppress the report detailing blood stained floors, blood spattered equipment & very soiled mattresses. But the CQC had already gone public much to Mr Burnham’s anger. Details released under the Freedom of Information Act.
